5W Kiosk featuring resident artist Wendy MacNaugton
Where: 5W Kiosk, 5th Street between Market and Mission (westside of street)
When: Fridays - November 2 - January 25, 2013
For three months, every Friday for two hours, the kiosk outside the SF Mint will open to reveal a vibrant, bright colored interior with a general map drawn 360 inside, representing the area surrounding the kiosk.
We engage with people as they pass the kiosk and ask them where they are going, where they are coming from, and why? After a hopefully lively discussion with south of market passer-bys, we use colored dots corresponding with the type of journey, to chart their course and annotate it with details about their travel.
Come by and see about the 5M kiosk – We’d love to connect!
The 5Ws Project – A public art and community partnership project. 5W’s includes community chalkboards, community partnerships (including CHALK, United Playaz, SRO Collaborative/Sisters Rize!,Bindlestiff Studio, Hospitality House, West Bay, and SF CameraWork), a series of arts-based workshops, a re-purposed newspaper kiosk hosting exhibitions, an online interactive map, and lighting, sculpture and street furniture installed in key adjacent public spaces (5M Project, Mint Plaza, 6th Street).
The 5Ws is a project of 5MPlaceWorks, a new program led by Intersection for the Arts in collaboration with the 5M Project and PolicyLink. It is a pioneering new entity that fuses creative placemaking and economic development practice with the goal of a new model for inclusive urban development.Posted on November 6, 2012
