 Portraits Writing Workshop with Chinaka HodgeThu, Jan 28 | 6pm - 8pm | FREE Be part of the process in creating Intersection's newest theatre piece with this new writing workshop inspired by the upcoming world premiere of Mirrors In Every Corner. Open to all ages, participants will be led by playwright Chinaka Hodge, through a series of exercises exploring some of the themes in "Mirrors" about race, family and neighborhood. Participants' creative contributions will inform the development of this groundbreaking new play.
Chinaka Hodge is a poet and playwright. Originally from Oakland, California, she was named Best Poet by the East Bay Express in 2008. She was the inaugural recipient of Dave Eggers' 826Valencia young author scholarship. Her work has been featured in /Teen People Magazine/, /Newsweek/, /The San Francisco Chronicle/, /The Oakland Tribune/, /Scholastic Magazine/, /Current Magazine/, /The Annual Women of Color Film Festival/, PBS, NPR, KMEL, WBAR, WKCR, CNN, C-Span, KPFA and in two seasons of HBO's /Def Poetry/. Her first independently written play, /Mirrors in Every Corner/, was created for and developed by Intersection for the Arts, Campo Santo and the Living Word Project, will open in February, 2010.
