About the Facilitator
VICKY CASSIS-SILYAN
They/She
Vicky Cassis-Silyan is the instructor for The Intersection: Art & Money 101, and also serves as the Director of Finance & Operations at Intersection for the Arts. Vicky is an artist and financial professional with 10+ years of experience helping groups manage their resources. Through a constellation of experiences with nonprofits, cooperatives, collectives, and music projects, Vicky has learned how important it is to train ourselves and our collaborators on financial management so that everyone involved can make informed decisions. Beyond living in spreadsheets all day, Vicky is playing music, writing, and hiking with their dogs.

At a Glance
In The Intersection: Art & Money 101, we start from zero, unpacking the fundamentals of entrepreneurial and organizational finances in a supportive, artist-centered environment. Through skill-building workshops and hands-on labs, you’ll develop systems for tracking and organizing your money, understanding the story your finances tell, and building the confidence to make informed financial decisions that support your creative work and long-term sustainability.
Across four sessions, you’ll learn:
- Session 1: Money Tracking. Get familiar with key financial concepts and dive into money management tools.
- Session 2: Introduction to a Schedule C. Help your tax preparer help you by systemizing the documentation for your Schedule C.
- Session 3: Invoicing & Contracts. Learn best practices for invoicing for your work and paying others for theirs.
- Session 4: Budgeting & Cash Flow. Put what you have learned so far into practice by planning for your future.
What You’ll Gain
By the end of the series, you’ll have the tools, knowledge, and confidence to:
- Get and stay organized: Track your income and expenses, separate your personal and business finances, and understand the story beneath the numbers.
- Plan ahead: Build a budget and cash-flow document to understand where your money is going, prepare for what’s next, and make informed financial decisions.
- Handle your taxes: Understand the basics of filing a Schedule C as an independent contractor.*
- Run the business side: Invoice for your work, manage vendors and contractors, and keep your financial records in order using the systems you’ve built to support your long-term goals.
- Gain connections: Program participants build collective trust and support in the cohort environment.
*While the program will outline tax reporting basics, Intersection and the facilitator are not tax advisors, and participants should seek their own tax advice when preparing their tax returns.
